interview with Richard Dyson in Offshore Engineer magazine

in this month’s edition of Offshore Engineer magazine (October 2017), the article “drilling deeper into data” includes an interview with io’s CEO, Richard Dyson. In the interview, Richard discusses io’s belief that the true value from big data will be derived from an holistic approach, combining subsurface, subsea, facilities and operating data derived throughout the project life cycle. He also addresses the need for projects, and the wider oil & gas industry, to start with the end in mind by establishing a robust data strategy; so as not to erode value by creating unwieldy and unstructured data sets. The article closes with a look at the challenges facing the adoption of a digital approach, particularly in relation to the creation of a digital twin. In this final section, Richard puts forward io’s views of the challenges, including the necessity of collaboration, the importance of a coherent digital strategy, and the need to consider information security within these strategies.
